A national Passport to Learning has been created in which 7-14 year old children will collect `stamps` and hours of accredited learning. These hours of learning contribute to the award of a National Certificate.
The value of the Passport to Learning is £2. A Passport to Learning can be purchased through any school within the Borough of Colchester or directly from the Colchester Children's University™ office.
Each Passport to Learning is individually numbered which makes each child, a passport holder, an individual member of the national Children's University™.
The Passport to Learning is then used by children to travel around Colchester and of course the UK, to various Learning Destinations, collecting `stamps` for their hours of participation in accredited out of school activities.
Travel is, after all, what a Passport is for.
In Colchester, students can use their Passport at their school - provided that the school offers Children's University™ learning activities. The Passport to Learning can be used for activities before, during lunchtimes and after the school day and at school holiday activity programmes. It cannot be used to collect hours of learning for school-day trips/activities.
Passports can also be used to collect hours of learning through visits to tourist and leisure attractions in and around Colchester and also a wide range of clubs and societies.
Can you help us?
If your child attends an activity that they or you think should be part of the Colchester Children's University™, we'd like to hear from you. We won't always know what's available until somebody shows us.
If we think the activity/organisation meets our standards we will register them as a Children's University™ Learning Destination where children can accumulate hours of learning.
The list of schools and organisations where Children's University™ learning is offered will grow and grow.
We will update our website regularly with details of new Learning Destinations as they are created.
